Bamboo-zled by the Maldives: Where barefoot luxury meets eco magic
At least once in everyone’s life, it is a must to dive into the crystal clear waters of the magnificent southern seas, swim with fish of all colors of the rainbow, ocean turtles, dolphins and sharks, be caressed by the warm wind coming from the ocean, while relaxing on the snow-white sandy beach. Where, if we dive into the water, we can admire magnificent coral reefs and encounter the amazing wealth of ocean fauna and flora. The human attraction to this fabulous aquatic world is a very strong and ancient feeling. It is no coincidence that when we dive into the ocean to swim and chase small and large fish that are completely oblivious to humans, we feel: I am home. The pinnacle of tropical dream destinations, the Maldives, which – deservedly – won the title of World’s Leading Destination for the fifth time, is the place where we can fully enjoy all this.
Well, the beauty of nature is present on all of the approximately 1200 islands; I can say that I know the services provided by the holiday lodges and guesthouses, the city business and boutique hotels, after my many trips to the Maldives and countless hotels. However, there is one hotel that is unique in the Maldives and I am very curious to know what makes it special.
I had heard about Ecoboo Hotel from professional circles for a long time, and I even knew some of the hotel managers from various events and professional conferences. I also knew that they had created their hotel according to a completely new concept. How and why has now finally become clear.
Ecoboo – Bamboo from Vietnam
From the very beginning, the Ecoboo Hotel was conceived and built with environmental awareness and sustainability in mind. Accordingly, they have implemented a number of initiatives related to energy, resources, recycling and water that are not part of everyday practice elsewhere.
One such solution, the most striking element for the first observer, is the use of bamboo as a building material. Bamboo was used throughout the entire construction of the hotel, on the exterior walls, the interior design and the furniture, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. In total, about 65 kilometers of bamboo were used in the hotel facilities, which were brought here from Vietnam, as several shiploads.
Based on the above, it is understandable that the name of the hotel “Ecoboo” was created as a combination of the words ECOlogic and BamBOO.

What makes it unforgettable
Well, I never thought that living in a house, villa, whatever you call it, made of natural materials – in our case bamboo – and all the furniture is made of what surrounds us during our stay there would have such an effect. On the one hand, it is exceptional, because it is unusual. It is surprising how extremely calming it has on a person; in addition, all the existing plants, trees, bushes were kept during the construction, so there is a tropical environment covered with ancient vegetation between the houses.
We step out into the jungle. It is almost natural for a person to throw off their slippers and not only is the location not a flip-flop destination but a barefoot destination. We directly perceive nature, Mother Earth here and this is no exaggeration. What probably no description of Thinadhoo about the island says is that the coral population here is quite amazingly rich. Maybe because it is a residential island, inhabited by a small community and has not been destroyed. But it is not necessary to sail in or bring diving equipment to explore the huge, living, rich coral colonies up close by simply walking in the water or swimming over them at high tide. It is a breathtaking experience. The effect of such a richness of the aquatic and coastal environment is extraordinary on our body and soul.

The hotel – the Ecoboo family
“We are a family hotel and once you stay with us, you become part of the Ecoboo family. Our aim here is to make you feel at home and to show you what the real Maldives has to offer in a sustainable way,” say the hotel’s management and staff.
It’s hard to define the category of the hotel, as it is so unique. They call themselves a boutique hotel and there is something to that in the sense that they started with 16 rooms. But now that has grown to over 40 rooms, they have grown far beyond the boutique hotel category. The hotel’s 40 rooms are built with a unique bamboo building concept, reflecting the sustainability principles that guide and inspire us to achieve a neutral carbon footprint. At the same time, the design of the hotel offers the boutique
The coziness and intimacy of hotels is undeniable. The services are of a 4-star standard, which is very high and rightly so. The cuisine is excellent, fresh dishes, soups, fruits, varied every day in the oceanfront restaurant, where we also go barefoot. Drinks and coffees can be ordered, in short, the service is impeccable. We can get fresh water in a bottle made with our name at any time of the day.

Pack Experience – All Inclusive Experience Package
To make your dream vacation a reality, Ecoboo Hotel has put together a great experience package that, in addition to 4-star All Inclusive hotel services, offers an experience for every day – because as they say: “We offer an experience package, not just a hotel room.”
Ecoboo guarantees at least 1 tour per day for all Pack Experience guests, weather permitting. This means that guests participate in the tour planned for that day, instead of choosing the tours individually.
