Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors

Spring brings with it a wave of must-see shows and series. In this article we’re showing you everything you need to watch.

The biggest show of the season is easily The Last of Us season 2. HBO’s post-apocalyptic zombie drama averaged a massive 30 million viewers during its initial run in 2023, the most for any HBO series since the final season of Game of Thrones, which hit 44 million.

It’s not the only must-see TV, though. With new seasons of You, Andor, and Doctor Who alongside the launch of all-new original series, here’s the hottest TV in April 2025.

The Last of Us Season 2

HBO’s big budget video game adaptation is the most eagerly anticipated show of April, and for good reason. The first was a masterful post-apocalyptic drama mixing epic set-pieces with tender human moments.

Set a few years after the first season, we follow Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) as the peaceful life they’ve carved out for themselves in the makeshift settlement of Jackson is suddenly disrupted by a thousand-strong horde of infected. New characters also make their debut, including Abby (Kaitlyn Dever), Dina (Isabela Merced), Jesse (Young Mazino), and a mystery role from Catherine O’Hara.

His peace is shattered, however, when revelations about the killer are brought suddenly to the surface. The season also introduces new characters, including mysterious writer Bronte, Kate’s family members, the Lockwood siblings.

Andor Season 2

Andor writer Tony Gilroy said recently he and his team are taking Star Wars more seriously than anyone taken it before. Disney+’s adult-skewing sci-fi drama, which takes place before the events of 1977’s Star Wars: A New Hope, returns with 12 episodes broken up into four chapters bridging the gap to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Events revolve around a deadly massacre by imperial forces that form the catalyst to Cassian Andor’s (Diego Luna) fledgling Rebel Alliance.

The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6

As well as You, April marks the end of another long-running series with season 6 of The Handmaid’s Tale – and there are plenty of plot threads to wrap up. Dope Thief

Apple TV+ prestige dramas don’t come along often, but when they do, they’re worth watching. Last month it was Severance, and this month it’s the turn of Dope Thief, a crime drama based on author Dennis Tafoya’s book of the same name and executive produced by Ridley Scott.

Starring Brian Tyree Henry, Wagner Moura, and Ving Rhames, we follow friends Ray (Brian Tyree Henry) and Manny (Wagner Moura), as their audacious robbery attempt embroils them in one of the biggest hidden narcotics operations in the entire country.

The Bondsman

If Constantine featured Kevin Bacon instead of Keanu Reeves, it might look something like The Bondsman. The Footloose actor plays Hub Halloran, a murdered bounty hunter who’s brought back from the dead by the Devil.

That resurrection comes at a cost however, because now he’s got a new assignment: tracking down demons who have escaped Hell and sending them back to the Devil. Meanwhile, Hub makes amends with his family for the sins he committed in a previous life.
