Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen could be looking at a punishment from the NFL for one of his celebration’s during his team’s 31-21 victory over the Miami Dolphins on “Thursday Night Football” in Week 3.
The play in question came during the third quarter of the contest, when Dolphins linebacker Jordyn Brooks came in with a late hit on Allen. The ensuing flag resulted in a first down for the Bills, but what came after could land Allen in hot water.
Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post took to X with a video of Allen’s celebration, which appeared to involve a finger gun gesture. The NFL has expressly banned such celebrations by its players.
“Was this Josh Allen Simulating the firing of a gun?” Schad captioned his post.
If the league deems that is, in fact, what Allen intended with his post-play gesture, there is plenty of precedent for the Bills QB to face some kind of repercussions, and Allen would most likely be looking at a fine of some sort.
The NFL has specifically outlined that celebrations simulating any sort of violence, sexual innuendo, or anything else deemed inappropriate could lead to monetary punishments.

The league doled out fines ranging from $14,000 to a little less than $20,000 to players like Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Drake London, New York Jets wideout Allen Lazard, and Cincinnati Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase for similar gun-related gestures made during the 2024 campaign, per SportsBusinessJournal.com.
Should the NFL decide to punish Allen similarly, it would likely make an announcement of the fine, along with the reasoning for it, by Saturday, Sept. 27.
The Bills will take the field at home against the New Orleans Saints the following day.
