The Buffalo Bills have been knocking on the door of Super Bowl Sunday for years, but have yet to receive an answer.
The franchise may finally be able to kick that door in this postseason if it is able to acquire a big-time playmaker ahead of the NFL trade deadline on Nov. 4.
“In a perfect world, the Bills should be aggressive. They arguably need help at both cornerback and safety, as well as a wide receiver for Josh Allen,” Eric Edholm of NFL.com wrote on Friday. “The WR need can’t be overlooked; their advanced metrics are pretty blah across the board at that position, and the offense hasn’t topped 245 net pass yards since Week 1.”

There aren’t a ton of monster names at the wide receiver position potentially available via trade. However, Jeremy Fowler and Matt Bowen of ESPN put together a list of the top 25 trade candidates in 2025 and named Miami Dolphins pass-catcher Jaylen Waddle as the No. 2 overall prospect.
“A rapid accelerator with explosive-play ability, Waddle fits best in a system that schemes catch-and-run targets (crossers, in-breakers, screens) and vertical throws,” Bowen wrote Wednesday. “Over his career in Miami, 16.8% of Waddle’s receptions have gone for 20 or more yards, while he produced 38.6% of his total receiving yardage after the catch. He has 405 yards and three TDs this season.”
Fowler and Bowen listed the chances that Miami moves Waddle at just 10%, naming the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers as the most sensible trade partners. Getting a deal done would arguably be even more difficult for Buffalo given that the Bills and Dolphins play in the same division (AFC East) and square off twice every regular season.
That said, Miami is 1-6 on the year and appears at the precipice of wholesale changes to both the roster and coaching staff. If Buffalo comes with a strong offer of a Day 2 draft pick, it may be one that the Dolphins simply can’t afford to refuse on the eve of what looks likely to be a multi-year rebuild beginning next March.
Waddle is just 26 years old and recently inked an $85 million extension that keeps him under contract through the 2028 campaign.
