Black Labrador Living the WaveRunner Dream Wins ‘Pet of the Week’
From a dog’s busy napping schedule while the owner is at work to a cat and canine’s vastly different reactions to meeting and all the best canine costumes at the Halloween parade, it’s been a spirited week in the pet world. And, of course, our readers’ pets continued to light up our week.
Think your pet is a star? Read through to find out how to submit your pet to be featured in an upcoming edition of “Pet of the Week.”
Winner
This week’s winner, a black Labrador named Bodhi, loves getting out and savoring all that nature has to offer.
Candace Golembeski and her husband welcomed home Bodhi when he was 8 eight weeks old. She told Newsweek that ever since they had him, they noticed he loves doing all of the things they do. He’s become her shadow.
“He goes on the ATV, the snowmobile, the sled,” she said. “He loves the pool and loves to go on the boat too!”
He looks fearless riding a WaveRunner in the video, rocking a life jacket and sunglasses as if he’s done this a million times before.
Finalists

Our first finalist for the week is owner Jules Hathaway’s cat, Tobago. After losing their previous feline, Hathaway was devastated and did not think they could give that kind of love again, but when a friend took them to the humane society, everything changed.
“I was patting Tobago when a woman tried to pick her up,” Hathaway said. “Tobago grabbed my arm with her front paws and wouldn’t let go. The woman said Tobago wanted to go home with me. I decided I couldn’t break a sweet little cat’s heart two days before Christmas.”
They said one look into Tobago’s big, golden eyes made their heart grow two sizes, like the Grinch’s. Over the next six years, Tobago has been the “best little cat” who loves to snuggle, head-butt and play, especially peekaboo.

Next up is Poppy, a 10 1/2-pound Jack Russell terrier/Chihuahua mix. Joy and Mike Fanning welcomed this bundle of energy into their home when she was just 10 weeks old. They adopted her from the Verde Valley Humane Society.
Poppy believes she deserves a taste of the luxurious lifestyle. Joy told Newsweek that if you offer her a bite of sirloin, she’ll sniff it and look at you as if it wasn’t up to her standards.
“She’s smart, energetic and completely spoiled to bits,” Joy said. “But she’s our little mess and we love her!”

Last, but not least, we have Danette Heine’s 11-year-old dog, Shadow.
Since Shadow was a puppy, Heine noticed he always carried items in his mouth. In this particular instance, he was groomed and given a tie to wear after his fresh cut, but instead of wearing it, he paraded around with it in his mouth.
And when he’s not holding something in his mouth, Heine told Newsweek, he “lives up to his name.”
“He follows me everywhere,” she said. “Loves to sit on my lap, and at night, will scratch at the top of the blanket until I lift it up, so he can snuggle by my side.”
If you think your pet could be next week’s Newsweek “Pet of the Week,” send us your funny and heartwarming videos and pictures of your pet, along with a bit about them, to life@newsweek.com, and they could appear in our “Pet of the Week” lineup.
