Border Patrol Agent Comes Under Fire, Shoots Person In New Hampshire—Report
An individual was shot by a U.S. Border Patrol agent early Sunday in Pittsburg, New Hampshire, near the Canadian border, after allegedly firing shots at a federal agent, according to a local media report.
The incident occurred around 1 a.m. after the individual opened fire, prompting the agent to return fire and strike the person, an FBI spokesperson told NBC10 Boston.
Newsweek has contacted the Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection, as well as the FBI for comment.
The individual who was shot was transported to a local hospital for treatment, NBC10 Boston reported. Officials have not released information about the person’s identity or condition.
The Border Patrol agent was not injured, and their name has not been disclosed, according to NBC10 Boston.
The FBI told the outlet its Evidence Response Team is collecting evidence at the scene.
NBC10 Boston reported the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Hampshire is also involved in the inquiry.
Authorities have not released further information as the investigation is ongoing.
Officials have not provided additional details on what led to the shooting.
Pittsburg is the northernmost town in New Hampshire, located along the Canadian border. It is a small, rural community known for its forests, lakes, and outdoor recreation.
