Boston Celtics Get Huge Jayson Tatum Injury Update
The Boston Celtics are entering what could be a throwaway season in the 2025-26 campaign. After Jayson Tatum went down with a torn Achilles in the second round of the NBA Playoffs, the team underwent major changes during the offseason.
Jrue Holiday was traded away to the Portland Trail Blazers. Following that move, the Celtics traded Kristaps Porzingis to the Atlanta Hawks.
Their main return in those two trades were Anfernee Simons and Georges Niang.

Despite how disappointing the offseason has been for Boston fans, the Celtics have received some huge news. Tatum seems to be progressing very well in his recovery from the Achilles tear.

As shared by Heavy NBA reporter Steve Bulpett, an NBA scout gave an update about Tatum. He seems to be well ahead of pace in his recovery.
“He was moving really well. There might have been a slight limp or something, but the surprising thing to me is that he didn’t have a boot for any of it,” the scout said.
“I’m no doctor, but I’ve seen guys coming back from Achilles’ tears, and he looked way ahead. I was kind of shocked to see how well he was moving. I have no idea for what any of this means for when he can come back. I’m sure him and the Celtics’ medical people have their program set up, and they’ll make sure that he’s where he needs to be when he does get back. But he looks great right now. Of course, he didn’t do any running or even jogging, but he was in great shape and he had no trouble doing his part at the camp.”
Could there be a chance that Tatum returns to the court during the 2025-26 season? Fans will have to wait patiently to find out that answer.

There is no point to rushing Tatum back. If he needs to miss the entire season to come back fully healthy with no risk of injuring the Achilles again, then that will be the path Boston takes.
Tatum put together another big season during the 2024-25 season. In 72 games with the Celtics, he averaged 26.8 points per game to go along with 8.7 rebounds, six assists, and 1.1 steals, while shooting 45.2 percent from the floor and 34.3 percent from three-point distance.
Expect to hear more updates about Tatum in the coming weeks and months. For now, this is great news for Boston that gives hope of a potential return quicker than expected.
