Braves Fortunately Dodge Bullet With Latest Austin Riley Injury Update
The Atlanta Braves fought the injury bug pretty badly last season. Both Spencer Strider and Ronald Acuña Jr. lost their seasons to torn ligaments well before the trade deadline. Fortunately for Atlanta, 2025 has been a bit kinder to the team’s health.
Atlanta did lose catcher Sean Murphy to a cracked rib earlier this offseason, but, it hasn’t seen anybody else with much of an injury scare.
That was until a 95-mile-per-hour fastball struck All-Star third baseman Austin Riley in the right hand on Friday. Take a look:
Riley initially tried to stay in the game before being removed when the pain and swelling were too much. Shortly after being removed from the game, Riley was sent in for further testing to reveal the extent of the damage. The Braves faithful were left holding their breath as everybody awaited an update.

Just over an hour after being hit by the 95 MPH fastball, Braves beat writer Justin Toscano revealed that Riley didn’t suffer a fracture in the scary incident. Toscano revealed that Riley would be considered day-to-day, which is often the case in an event like this that lacks a fracture, but swelling is still prevalent.
Braves fans can finally let out a sigh of relief. This is a major bullet dodged for Riley and the entire Braves lineup. Atlanta will be without Murphy, Acuña Jr., and Strider for a chunk of the 2025 season. It would have been a very unfortunate situation to lose Riley for a few months, too.
