Braves Urged to Hire 3-Time Manager of Year as Next Skipper
The Atlanta Braves revealed that Brian Snitker would not return as manager next season. He will take on a new role in the organization, according to MLB insider Bob Nightengale, but there is now a manager opening in Atlanta.
The Braves won the World Series in 2021 and have a roster full of superstars. With Ronald Acuña Jr., Matt Olson, Austin Riley, Spencer Strider and Chris Sale in the fold, the Braves may be an attractive team for prospective managers. However, with all of the talent the Braves have, pressure to win will be high.
FanSided’s Chris Landers urged the Braves to hire Bob Melvin, who was just fired from the San Francisco Giants. Melvin is a veteran manager who has managed for 22 seasons in the big leagues.
“Melvin, like basically anyone with over two decades of big-league managerial experience, has his share of detractors,” wrote Landers. “But he’s won pretty much everywhere he’s been, and it’s hard to lay too much of San Francisco’s mediocrity this season at his feet. Clearly he’s doing something right to stick around this long, and he’s done a good job of adapting to the modern game.”
Melvin won one Manager of the Year Award with the Arizona Diamondbacks and two with the Athletics. His career record is 1678-1588. He is 16-23 in the postseason.
Melvin has been around the game for a long time. He played for 10 seasons prior to becoming a manager. He is a seasoned option who should interest the Braves.
