Nearly everything went according to plan for the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 1 of the National League Division Series against the Chicago Cubs.
That included leadoff hitter Jackson Chourio, as he made MLB postseason history in the first two innings of Saturday’s game.
According to MLB writer Sarah Langs, Chourio is the first player in MLB history to collect three hits in the first two innings of a postseason game. Chourio collected both a double and single in the first inning, followed by an RBI single in the second inning. In two innings of play, Chourio was 3-for-3 with 3 RBI.
Chourio’s multi-hit first inning was the first in the MLB postseason since Carlos Correa did it in Game 4 of the 2021 ALCS against with the Houston Astros. He was at the forefront of Milwaukee’s six-run first inning as well as its three-run second inning in Game 1 against Chicago.
There was bad news for Milwaukee, though, with Chourio as he left the game after his third hit. It appeared to be due to a hamstring injury, something he’s dealt with throughout the season. The Brewers certainly hope that the injury isn’t serious, as Chourio would be a big loss to overcome during the remainder of the postseason.
