The Denver Broncos achieved a massive win against the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Divisional Round game on Saturday. Still, it didn’t come without an injury, striking a blow to their hopes of winning the Super Bowl.
Quarterback Bo Nix threw 26-of-46 completions for 279 yards and three touchdowns, with only one interception and zero sacks. He also used his legs on 12 carries for 29 yards.
Unfortunately, Nix also suffered a broken bone in his ankle during the game. Tom Pelissero reported the announcement via head coach Sean Payton after the win. As a result, Pelissero reported that Nix is done for the season and won’t participate in any more of his team’s playoff games.

During his postgame remarks to reporters, Payton said Nix sustained the broken bone in his right ankle on the second-to-last play in overtime during the game, and would have surgery in Birmingham, Alabama, on Tuesday.
Most of the news after the Broncos’ win focused on the disappointing loss for Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills, who seemed on the verge of winning in overtime, only to lose 33-30 on a Denver field goal.
As of this writing, Nix’s backup is Jarrett Stidham, who will now replace him as the starting quarterback. It’s an unfortunate blow for the Denver Broncos, who were a favorite from the AFC to reach and win the Super Bowl.
Nix didn’t mention the injury situation in postgame comments, but instead praised the Bills and his team’s defense for helping get the win.
“They played really well tonight. They gave us a great shot on a short week after a tough game last week, so hats off to them. We found a way to win again and our defense made stops and I’m just proud of our guys. I’m just proud of this organization. I’m proud of the way we compete, we fight,” Nix said after the game, per ESPN.
“We’re just never out of it and I think that’s just the character piece. It wasn’t always pretty, we had a good lead and they came back and it wasn’t looking good, but the fourth quarter and overtime, we just found a way to win,” Nix said.
The Broncos are the AFC’s No. 1 seed and will play the winner of Sunday’s Divisional Round game between the Houston Texans and New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game.
