The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are heading into their toughest test in the early NFL season, as they take on the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. Both teams are undefeated and looking to continue that momentum in Week 4.
So far this season, Tampa Bay has held their own against the New York Jets, Houston Texans, and Atlanta Falcons. However, none of those teams are the defending Super Bowl champions.
Through three games, quarterback Baker Mayfield has 615 yards and six touchdowns with zero interceptions. Opponents sacked him six times, including one that previously raised concerns about his playing status.
He bounced back up after the takedown and continued to lead his team to victory. However, it’s always concerning when his name is mentioned alongside other injured players, as was the case this week.

On Wednesday, Mayfield appeared on the team’s injury report due to a biceps injury in his right throwing arm. That kept him limited in practice this past week, and the Bucs QB was seen with a sleeve on his arm.
Ahead of the game, the Buccaneers received significant news regarding several of their key offensive players, including Mayfield, the four-time Pro Bowler who helps protect him, and one of Mayfield’s targets.
Late Saturday evening, NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that Mayfield, Chris Godwin, and offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs should all be “good to go” for Sunday’s game.
Per Rapoport, Mayfield was dealing with a right biceps injury, Godwin had a lingering ankle injury, and Wirfs was dealing with a knee injury.
That’s encouraging news for a Buccaneers team that wants to remain competitive in the NFC, especially as they look to take on the Eagles, possibly.
Should Mayfield be unable to play, backup Teddy Bridgewater is waiting on the sidelines to step in and guide the team. However, the team’s QB1 team is a key reason they’ve started this season 3-0.
Meanwhile, if Godwin can go, Sunday will mark his season debut. The star receiver was sidelined around the middle of last season with an ankle injury. However, he returned to practice and is expected to participate in the Buccaneers’ game against the Eagles.
Before his injury, Godwin recorded 50 passes for 576 yards and five touchdowns as one of Mayfield’s. That will likely resume on Sunday, as another of Tampa Bay’s star receivers, Mike Evans, was ruled out of this week’s game due to a hamstring injury.
