Budapest Airport celebrates anniversary with honour
Ferenc Liszt airport is not only celebrating its 75th birthday this year, it has also been named “Best Airport in Europe” in its category.
Based on the votes of travellers, the international trade association ACI has named the Hungarian capital’s airport the best in Europe for the second time since 2022, in the category of airports with an annual passenger volume of 15-25 million travellers. The travellers surveyed rated the airports’ services according to 37 criteria. On a scale with a maximum of 5 points, travellers awarded 2024 more than four points every quarter. The speedy and smooth security check, the friendliness of the staff and the good orientation throughout the airport building were particularly praised.
Ferihegy Airport was opened on 7 May 1950. In the first year, around 50,000 travellers took advantage of the new opportunity to explore the wide world; today there are a similar number every day. Since 2011, when Ferenc Liszt would have celebrated his 200th birthday, the airport has borne the name of the famous Hungarian composer.
