Cat Moves to House, Face Goes Viral Seeing ‘Real World’ for the First Time
A cat’s reaction to moving into a new home and exposure to the “real world” quickly went viral on Reddit.
Pet parent Dylan Field recently moved across town in Nashville with his three cats. Puff Puff the orange cat didn’t take the transition well.
Field told Newsweek via Reddit messenger that they previously lived in a condo facing the woods. The view became Puff Puff’s corner of the world. It was all she knew.
“She had never really been exposed to the world at such close proximity as she has available now,” Field said.
The move changed her perspective, although she wasn’t too impressed with the big world. Field shared Puff Puff’s reaction to the new home in an April 22 post on the subreddit r/awww. She sat in front of the door window, staring out with widened eyes, perplexed by her new world.

Part of the caption reads: “My cat is seeing the real world for the first time and it’s really bogging her down.”
Field said the transition into the new home took a few weeks. Puff Puff escaped her cat carrier while in the car while driving to the new house. She also hid behind the couch on the first day. As for his other cats, Field said they had similar reactions to the move, which isn’t surprising.
As creatures of habit, cats do not typically respond well to change. They might become stressed, anxious, or fearful about leaving their home with familiar smells and sounds. According to Catster, it might take about a week for cats to fully adjust to new homes.
Redditors React
Within one day, the Reddit post amassed over 32,000 upvotes, with users flooding the comment section to share that they understood Puff Puff’s “existential crisis.”
“That’s pretty much my reaction to the real world too, can’t blame her,” wrote one person.

From Puff Puff’s perspective, another Reddit user commented: “That’s not my backyard..!!? That’s not my lawn..!!? Where’s my tree..!!?? What the hell is going on here..!!!”
Several others explained how their pets reacted to moving.
“Our cat had a similar crisis after our fence blew down in a hurricane. Her world just got infinitely bigger and she couldn’t comprehend it,” said a commenter.
