Chip Kelly Interviewed for Job With Major College Football Program
It’s been a whirlwind last 12 months for Chip Kelly.
The 62-year-old coach won a national championship as the offensive coordinator of the Ohio State Buckeyes last January. Not long after he was made the highest-paid coordinator in the NFL when the Las Vegas Raiders hired him to the same position on head coach Pete Carroll’s staff.
But Kelly was hastily fired more than two weeks ago following the Raiders’ 2-9 start. The team ranked last in scoring and rushing offense, 31st in total offense, and 26th in passing offense.

While most didn’t expect Kelly to land another NFL job after getting fired midseason, he may not be too far off from landing back in the college ranks.
According to On3’s Pete Nakos, Kelly recently interviewed for the vacant offensive coordinator position at Georgia Tech.

“Sources tell On3 that former UCLA head coach, Ohio State and Las Vegas Raiders offensive coordinator Chip Kelly has emerged as a name of note,” Nakos wrote. “Sources have confirmed that Kelly has interviewed for the position. Jackets Online reported Wednesday that Kelly was at Georgia Tech’s bowl practice prep, checking things out.”
The Yellow Jackets are looking for a new offensive coordinator following the departure of Buster Faulkner, who recently left to join Jon Sumrall’s staff as offensive coordinator with the Florida Gators.
Under Kelly’s guidance, Ohio State ranked in the top 30 in scoring offense (35.7 points per game, 12th), passing offense (263 per game, 29th), and total offense (429.4 yards per game, 30th).
Kelly brings 11 years of offensive coordinator experience at the college level to the table with stints at New Hampshire, Oregon, and Ohio State.
