Cleveland Browns QB Shedeur Sanders Linked to AFC Trade Scenario

The Cleveland Browns selected two quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL Draft. They also went out and brought in two veteran quarterback options, while still being locked in for two more years when it comes to Deshaun Watson’s contract.

One of those quarterbacks that was taken in the draft was Shedeur Sanders.

Leading up to the draft, Sanders was projected to be a first or second round pick. However, that was not the case for him. Instead, he dropped all the way to the fifth round, where the Browns were able to trade up to get him.

While Sanders is on the team, there is no guarantee about his future. Will he stick in Cleveland or will the team consider moving on from him? That remains to be seen.

Sanders has received mixed reviews in training camp thus far with the Browns. He has the talent to be a potential starter down the road, but talent does not translate to success all the time.

That being said, Sanders has been linked to a potential trade that would send him to an AFC opponent.

Former NFL cornerback Asante Samuel recently connected Sanders as a possible trade fit for the Indianapolis Colts. He made those comments during a segment of his podcast.

“He goes out there and does something like he did today, nine for nine, two touchdowns, 32 other teams are watching,” Samuel said. “Oh man, this might be the first time we see in history that something bizarre happens where a team tries to make a trade for him, like the Indianapolis Colts.”

As far as the Colts are concerned, they have a two-man quarterback competition underway. Anthony Richardson, the team’s former No. 4 overall pick, is fighting with Daniel Jones, who was signed in free agency. Sanders could compete in that room as well.

Giving up on Sanders so early might be a huge mistake for Cleveland. The Browns have been searching for a franchise quarterback for years. Sanders could be that guy.

This is just an idea, but Sanders is openly fighting for a spot on the team. It will be interesting to see where he ends up coming out of preseason and training camp action.

Should he be made available for trade, Indianapolis could make a lot of sense.
