Cody Rhodes Downplays Injury After Brutal WWE Elimination Chamber Attack
At WWE Elimination Chamber in Toronto, The Rock, accompanied by Travis Scott, offered Cody Rhodes an alliance, demanding that Rhodes become his champion.
Rhodes declined, prompting The Rock to seek another champion: John Cena. Cena, having won the Men’s Elimination Chamber Match, earned a WrestleMania title shot against Rhodes with the win and subsequently turned heel.
He launched a vicious attack on Rhodes, which was exacerbated by The Rock’s belt shots and Travis Scott’s physical involvement. Travis Scott was seen slapping Rhodes, visibly causing him pain.
Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio reported that Rhodes suffered a busted eardrum and a black eye during the assault. Meltzer stated, “I heard he had a busted eardrum and the black eye.”
83 Weeks podcast host Conrad Thompson checked in on ‘The American Nightmare’ and provided an update.

“I saw the report earlier this week, I checked on Cody and I was like, ‘Dude, I saw it, but a burst eardrum? Are you okay, holy shit.’ He replied, ‘Didn’t touch me, I got a wild bruise somehow though’ and sent me a picture. I said, ‘Well damn, I’m glad you’re okay mostly.’ He jokingly said, ‘The horsemen got me.'” Thompson said.
Thompson drew a parallel between Cody’s current response and his 2022 downplaying of a pectoral injury, which he later revealed at Hell In A Cell.
“I just thought it was funny that Cody even now is like, ‘Ah, he didn’t touch me.’ Now of course we know, that’s not the case, he’s sporting a major black eye right now. I don’t know if it’s true or not that he burst his ear drum but buddy, it is a brutal blow that we saw there.”
WWE has already confirmed that Rhodes will be on Friday’s episode of SmackDown, where he is expected to address the actions of The Rock and Cena. Perhaps, we will get a better idea of the status of Rhodes heading into WrestleMania 41 next month in Las Vegas.
