Colts’ DeForest Buckner Takes Massive Shot at Organization Following Loss to Giants

Another NFL season is nearly gone, and another year the Indianapolis Colts will not see the postseason. All the team had to do was to beat the lowly New York Giants on Sunday, but they fell with a final score of 45-33.

The disappointing end to the Colts season is something that has been felt by fans and players. Now, one such player has taken a massive shot at the organization, and promises “changes” are going to be made in the offseason to rectify the team’s recent issues.

Colts star defensive end DeForest Buckner aired out his grievances with the way the Colts’ season is set to end. After another near-miss for the playoffs, Buckner chose to state that big changes will be coming in the offseason.

According to NFL insider Ari Meirov, “I’m gonna be honest: We s*** the bed. Another year. It’s frustrating. … This offseason, there’s going to be some changes, and sometimes those changes are going to be uncomfortable for people. There will be uncomfortable conversations.”

Buckner is alluding to the Colts needing to essentially take a step back and make some serious changes. Though he did not detail what “changes” will be made, the organization might look to let head coach Shane Steichen go.

Steichen has been the head coach of the Colts since 2023, and in that time he has secured a 16-17 record. There is one final game of the season left for Indianapolis, but a 17-17 record will not hold much water compared to the team securing a playoff berth in at least one of those two years.

The Colts faced a similar playoff chance miss in 2023 when the team entered Week 16 with an 8-6 record. Had Indianapolis won two of their last three games, they would have made the playoffs. Instead, the dropped games to Falcons and Texans, ending their chances at the postseason.

A year later, the Colts were in a prime position to once again make the playoffs. However, going 1-2 in their last three outings has wiped away that chance.

Though the Colts would have needed some help, ending the season with a 9-8 record could have led to a playoff appearance. Now, they will have to go back to the drawing board to figure out what went wrong.

On top of Steichen potentially being let go, the team has to look at its quarterback room. Joe Flacco did well in his short time as a starter, but it’s Anthony Richardson quitting on the team that needs to be addressed.

Though Buckner did not call this moment out either, this became a major point of frustration for many pundits, fans, and players. Richardson taking himself out of the game became a bad omen for the Colts’ season.
