Washington Commanders Pro Bowl safety Jeremy Reaves took a knee after the team’s narrow victory over the Atlanta Falcons last night but for a good reason: to propose to his girlfriend Mikaela Worley on the sidelines.

It was a touching moment after a heated game, which also happened to guarantee the Commanders a wild-card spot in the playoffs. While that is likely the biggest moment in any of the other Commanders players’ days, Reaves got to have a slightly more life-changing victory.

After the Commanders secured a thrilling 30-24 overtime victory over the Falcons on Sunday Night Football, the celebration at Northwest Stadium took an even more personal turn.

With the home crowd still buzzing from the Commanders’ first playoff berth since 2020, Reaves turned his focus to something even more significant.

As teammates celebrated the win, Reaves helped his partner, Mikaela Worley, down from the stands before getting down on one knee at the side of the field.

Overcome with emotion, Worley sank to her haunches, tears streaming down her face, before saying, “Yes.” The couple embraced, and teammates rushed over to join the joyous celebration, while the crowd cheered in delight.

Cris Collinsworth and Mike Tirico captured the moment on the NBC broadcast, with Tirico delivering a heartwarming call: “Jeremy Reaves, who played 22 special teams snaps, has the most special one of all. Taking a knee at the end of the game for victory… Of course, she said yes, you’re in the playoffs now!”

Amusingly, Reaves later admitted that he would have waited to propose to Worley until a different time if the Commanders had lost. He probably made the right call with that plan.

The Commanders’ safety went to social media later to thank fans for the support of the moment, saying, “Glad we got to share that moment with the best fans in the world! LUV❤️”

With their wild overtime victory over the Falcons, the Commanders have now clinched a wild card spot in the playoffs, though it is still to be determined whether they will nab the #6 or #7 spot over the Green Bay Packers.

The Commanders will close out the regular season by playing the 7-9 Dallas Cowboys on January 5 at AT&T Field.
