‘Connections’ March 6: Hints and Answers for Puzzle #634
Connections has become a New York Times sensation since its launch in June 2023. That being said, it is not always easy to win the game, which is why Newsweek‘s clues are sure to help.
NYT‘ puzzle editor and Connections developer, Wyna Liu, told the newspaper in 2020 that she tends to “spend at least a couple hours a day working on grids.”
“I keep a separate list of entries on my phone that I want to build puzzles around, and I add to that whenever inspiration strikes,” Liu said.
In an interview with Newsweek last year, she said that, when it comes to creating the Connections games specifically, “each board has to be made from scratch.”
“It really does a long time to fudge things and try different angles,” Liu added.

How to Play ‘Connections’
Connections players are challenged with grouping words together by matching them to a particular theme. Users are given a set of 16 terms that they must categorize into four groups. These categories, ranging from easiest to most difficult are: yellow, green, blue and purple. A group’s color will be revealed only when the words have been guessed correctly.
For example, in Wednesday’s game, the blue category was “What might bring tears to your eyes,” and the words associated with it were “allergy,” “melodrama,” “onion” and “relief.”
Meanwhile, the purple category, was titled, “___ ball recreational sports,” and the words linked to it were: “dodge,” “kick,” “pickle” and “soft.”
If players are feeling stuck, there is a “shuffle” button which will rearrange the words and may make guessing a little bit easier. It should be noted, though, that the game ends after four tries.
