‘Connections’ March 7: Hints and Answers for Puzzle #635

Happy Friday, Connections fans! It is nearly the weekend, and if your brain is tired, Newsweek is here to help you beat today’s game.

The New York Times launched the brainteaser in June 2023, following the success of their other wildly popular word-based game—Wordle.

Keep scrolling for Newsweek‘s hints for brainteaser #635. It should be noted, however, that the answer to today’s Connections will also be revealed at the bottom of this article, so if you would rather avoid spoilers, we suggest you scroll with caution.

How to Play ‘Connections’

Each daily puzzle consists of 16 words that must be separated into four categories. These categories are color-coded, with yellow being the easiest, followed by green, then blue and then purple, which is considered the most difficult.

For example, in Thursday’s game, the words “plant,” “prune,” “water” and “weed” were linked to the green category: “Do some tasks in the garden.”

As for the purple category, it was “Sand ___,” and the words associated with it were: “castle,” “paper,” “piper” and “stone.”

Wyna Liu, Connections developer and NYT puzzle editor, previously told Newsweek she sometimes “clusters” words together, which may trick players.

When building the game, Liu consults her notebook and spreadsheet, which is like a “digital sketchpad.”

“I usually don’t know where a board is going to go,” she shared with readers last year.

If you are caught up in one of Liu’s clusters, though, don’t worry. There is a handy “Shuffle” button, which rearranges the words and may just give your brain the refresh it needs.

Plus, there is no time limit to the game, so players can think long and hard before sending in their submissions.
