Construction output drops by nearly 10 percent
Construction output volume, based on raw data, lagged behind the previous year’s level by 9.6% in January 2025. Out of the main groups of construction the construction of buildings lessened by 8.9%, that of civil engineering by 10.8%. Based on seasonally and working day adjusted indices construction output was above the December 2024 level by 1.6%.
In January 2025 compared to the same month of the previous year output in both main groups of construction decreased: the construction of buildings by 8.9%, that of civil engineering by 10.8%.
Among the divisions of construction, production volume decreased by 0.8% in the construction of buildings, and lessened by 8.4% in civil engineering. Production in specialised construction activities, having the largest weight in construction, fell by 15.9%.
The volume of new contracts concluded went down by 15.8%, year-on-year. Within it the volume of contracts for the construction of buildings fell by 19.7%, those for civil engineering works rose by 8.9%.
The volume of the end-of-January stock of contracts at construction enterprises was 0.2% lower than one year earlier, within it the volume of contracts was down by 14.7% for the construction of buildings and grew by 14.2% for civil engineering works compared to January 2024.
