The Dallas Cowboys put together an important win on Thursday Night Football against the New York Giants, but the win came at a great cost. Both DeMarcus Lawrence and Micah Parsons were hurt, and are expected to miss some time.

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy revealed that Lawrence suffered a Lisfranc injury to his right foot, and would be out for four to eight weeks. However, Parsons only suffered a high ankle sprain and is set to return soon. How soon is the question?

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, “The #Cowboys will prepare for this week on Sunday Night Football vs the #Steelers as if All-Pro DE/OLB Micah Parsons (ankle) won’t be able to play, coach Mike McCarthy confirmed.”

The Cowboys are preparing their week with the idea that Parsons won’t be able to suit up against the Pittsburgh Steelers. It sounds as if the team will take its time with Parsons instead of allowing him to potentially reaggravate the ankle injury he sustained.

Parsons experienced a couple of injury incidents against the Giants. The first occurred when he appeared to have suffered a concussion on a play. Parsons hit his head on the turf and was ushered into the blue medical tent. However, after being checked out by the medical staff, he returned to the game.

Parsons would then suffer the ankle injury in the fourth quarter of the game and had to be assisted off the field. He was carted into the locker room, and it appeared that he knew his ankle was in bad shape.

Parsons told reporters he was “unsure” of how serious his injury was, but McCarthy revealed on Friday that the defensive end suffered a high ankle sprain.

The good news is that Parsons is expected back soon. However, his absence along with Lawrence is going to severely impact the defense.

Defensive Coordinator Mike Zimmer is in his first season with the team and has already been heavily scrutinized by the unit’s performance. That was especially true when the New Orleans Saints hung 44 points on the team in Week 2.

The Cowboys already lost Sam Williams to a torn ACL and had to place Jordan Phillips on IR. The defensive line and pass rush continue to take big hits, and it will be interesting to see how the team can adapt to such big losses.

Shaq Lawson was recently signed and elevated for the game against the Giants, but it might be time to add even more free-agent talent to help the Cowboys balance out the thin defensive line depth.
