Cowboys Star Endorses JJ Watt’s Jerry Jones Criticism

Jerry Jones didn’t take a soft approach while discussing the Micah Parsons contract situation ahead of the Dallas Cowboys’ start to training camp.

The owner not only called out Parsons’ lack of availability last season to a crowd full of reporters, but he mentioned Dak Prescott’s injury concerns as well.

“Just because we sign [Micah Parsons] doesn’t mean we’re going to have him,” Jones explained. “He was hurt six games last year. Seriously! I remember signing a player to the highest-paid player at the position in the league and he got knocked out two-thirds of the year. Dak Prescott. So, there’s a lot of things you can think about, just as the player does, when you’re thinking about commitment, guarantee, and money.”

The comments went viral, as Parsons has been patiently waiting for his deserved extension. Even the former NFL superstar JJ Watt chimed in with his thoughts in a sarcastic manner.

“Anytime you can publicly take a dig at your star quarterback and your star pass rusher simultaneously, right before the season begins, you just gotta take it,” Watt wrote on social media.

“Nothing makes guys want to fight for you more than hearing how upset you are that they got hurt while fighting for you.”

Not only did Parsons hear Jones’ comments—but he endorsed Watt’s statement by simply hitting repost on social media. The message was sent and received.

The 26-year-old Parsons is heading into his fifth NFL season, which marks the final year of his rookie contract. He played in 17 games in each of his first three seasons with the Cowboys.

As the Cowboys struggled to stay healthy in 2024, Parsons was among those players whose season ended prematurely. He played in just 11 games last year. Still, Parsons had an impressive campaign by producing 43 tackles, with 12 of them going for a loss, and 12 sacks.

Throughout the offseason, Parsons has made it clear he wants to remain with the Cowboys. Recently, he mentioned that getting a deal done before the defensive end market saw a shift would’ve worked in both parties’ favor. Instead, the Cowboys asked for patience. Now, it might be running thin.

Still, the lack of contract discussions between Parsons and the Cowboys hasn’t forced the defensive end to stay away from the team for training camp. So far, all signs point to Parsons being present for training camp this week, avoiding the holdout route.

As Parsons continues to stick around and participate, there is a chance the contract discussions could be revisited sometime soon, as getting a deal done sooner rather than later should satisfy both sides before a critical season.
