Cracker Barrel Announces Menu Changes Coming This Year
Cracker Barrel is ushering in a spree of changes to its restaurants this year, and that several new menu items will be “inspired by classic American favorites,” according to a recent press release.
The exact new food offerings have not been announced as of yet.
Newsweek has reached out to Cracker Barrel for comment via email for further information.
What To Know
The country cooking chain announced a partnership with America250, the national, nonpartisan organization charged by Congress to organize the nation’s commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, to “celebrate the traditions and people that define America.”
“Cracker Barrel has always been more than a restaurant – it’s a place where Americans reconnect with traditions, with each other, and with the comfort of familiar food and nostalgic surroundings,” Sarah Moore, chief marketing officer, said in a statement.
She added: “Partnering with America250 is a natural extension of our heritage, reflecting the way we’ve always brought people together through the comforting flavors and shared moments that give meaning to everyday life. As the nation marks 250 years, we’re proud to help families create new memories around the same table they’ve been gathering for generations.”
The restaurant will be bringing several new in-store experiences and limited time menu offerings throughout the year.
“Food has always been at the heart of the Cracker Barrel experience, and in honor of America’s 250th birthday, guests can enjoy new, craveable menu items inspired by classic American favorites,” the company said in a release. “Guests can also anticipate the return of summertime favorites, back by popular demand, adding to the joy of gathering with family and friends during this milestone year.”
Currently, there are roughly 660 company-owned Cracker Barrel Old Country Store locations in 43 states.
The restaurant’s rocking chair will also be updated with a “series of commemorative designs inspired by the enduring spirit of American communities.”
“Cracker Barrel is one of America’s most iconic and beloved restaurant brands, rooted in Main Street communities across the country,” Jennifer Condon, executive vice president of America250, said in a statement. “Cracker Barrel will play an important role in our goal to engage 350 million Americans in this once-in-a-generation commemoration, inviting people to share stories, celebrate, and reflect on what it means to be American – of course, over a delicious meal.”
Alex Beene, a financial literacy instructor for the University of Tennessee at Martin, told Newsweek Cracker Barrel’s decision to update its menu and restaurant experience fits in line with the restaurant industry’s larger push to remain relevant even amongst cash-strapped customers.
“Many restaurant chains are adding menu offerings and having limited-time promotions as business has stalled and cash-strapped customers have opted increasingly to dine at home to save money. Cracker Barrel had the added pressure of a failed rebrand attempt that alienated some longtime customers,” he said.
“The result is a new campaign integrating America’s 250th Anniversary, with new menu items being added to fit in with the celebration. This is an appeal to customers who may have dined out less in recent years to come back through their doors and try new items associated with the celebration.”
