Deadly Explosions Hit Iran – Newsweek
Two separate blasts that have killed at least five people and injured over a dozen others struck two key cities in Iran on Saturday.
The explosions occurred in the port of Bandar Abbas, where the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) maintains a naval base, and the city of Ahvaz, a major industrial center near the border with Iraq.
The IRGC denied that the explosion was part of any targeted attack on a naval commander, with the semi-official state news agency Tasnim reporting that rumors of the commander’s assassination have been “proven false” and that the rumors are “entirely baseless.”
Israel has denied involvement with either explosion, and a fire official reportedly stated that the explosion in Bandar Abbas may have been triggered by a gas leak, according to Sky News.
Investigations into both explosions are ongoing, and Iranian media has provided little information otherwise.
This is a breaking news story. Updates will follow.
