Deaths outpace births in March
Preliminary data show that 7,004 children were born and 11,606 people died in March 2023, with the number of live births level with that in the same period a year earlier, while deaths decreased by 7.3 percent, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said on Friday.
The natural population loss was 4,602 in March this year as against 5,522 in March 2022, KSH said.
In March 2023, 3,089 couples tied the knot, down 32 percent from March 2022.
In the past 12 months, 89,799 children were born, down 0.7 percent from the same period of last year, while 131,883 people died, 12 percent fewer than in the previous year.
The natural population loss came to 42,084 year on year, a drop of 30 percent, compared with 59,745 in the same period last year.
Between April 2022 and March 2023, 60,061 couples were married, 15 percent fewer than in the previous year.
