Derrick Henry Believes AFC Title Game vs Chiefs Would Have Gone Differently If He Was on the Ravens
The new NFL season kicks off in a few days with an incredible opening game. The Baltimore Ravens travel to Kansas City to take on the reigning champion Chiefs, in a rematch of the AFC Championship Game from last season.
Kansas City took down Baltimore despite the Ravens having home-field advantage in the matchup. The Ravens added in a new weapon to their offensive attack this offseason: Pro Bowl running back Derrick Henry.
Henry has been one of the better running backs in the NFL since he was drafted in 2016. Adding him to an already explosive Baltimore offense seems unfair, giving the Ravens a claim to be one of the best teams once again.
While Henry didn’t suit up for Baltimore in the AFC title game, he believes that if he had been playing, Baltimore would have beaten Kansas City.
“Hell yeah,” Henry said Sunday when asked if things would have gone differently in the AFC title game were he on the team then. “I wish I could suit up that day watching the game. But now it’s my turn, so got to take advantage of it. It’s going to be a hell of a game. The Chiefs are always tough, they’re solid on all three teams. Got to be locked in this week to be able to execute on Thursday.”
Last season, Henry put up 1,167 yards and 12 touchdowns with the Tennessee Titans. He has posted at least 1,000 yards rushing in five of the last six seasons, giving Baltimore an even more dynamic running game.
“It’s who they lost to to get to the big one, so I’m sure that’s in the back of their minds,” Henry said of the mood of the team. “We’re going to come out and play Ravens style of football, execute so we can get a W, but yeah, I’m sure that’s in the back of their minds. I’m sure everybody’s locked in and going to be ready to go.”
Luckily for Henry and the Ravens, they will have a chance to see how they will fare against the Chiefs on Thursday. This could be a statement game for Baltimore, showing the Chiefs that they are the team to beat this season.
However, a loss could start to put doubt into the minds of the players in Baltimore.
Either way, it should be a fun matchup as two of the best teams in the NFL battle it out to open the new season.
