The Hungarian public prosecutor requested Magyar’s immunity to be lifted over allegations of theft on September 26, 2024, Deutsch said on Facebook.
Citing “reliable sources in the European Parliament”, Tamás Deutsch, the head of the Fidesz EP group, said on Tuesday that Tisza leader Peter Magyar’s hearing on lifting his immunity is not expected before mid-May. That would put the hearing eight months after the Hungarian authorities submitted the request to the European Parliament, he said.

The procedure got off to a slow start, Deutsch said. It took two months to appoint a rapporteur after the request, and another two “to put the matter on the agenda in Brussels”, he added.
“We can expect them to drag out Magyar’s immunity issues in the EP for as long as possible. If there will be a hearing in May, it will only be followed by other hearings,” he said.
“Peter Magyar is the humble servant of Brussels, so Brussels, the European People’s Party and Manfred Weber and company … are giving him a helping hand … so he can hide behind his immunity from being held accountable before the law. Enough of this!” Deutsch said.
