Dodgers Predicted To Demote Top Infield Prospect In Coming Days

The Los Angeles Dodgers have battled a lot of injuries this season, yet they’ve remained near the top of the National League.
Now, with around 50 games left in the season, the Dodgers’ injured players are beginning to return to Los Angeles, making it quite a scary scene for the rest of the league.
But for the Dodgers, there’s going to be a bit of a roster crunch when these players begin returning.
Sam Phalen of Dodgers Way recently predicted the Dodgers would send infield prospect Alex Freeland back to Triple-A when the injured players begin to return to the big league roster.

“It has been fun watching shortstop prospect Alex Freeland get his first taste of the big leagues over the last week. Freeland is the No. 3 prospect in the Dodgers organization, and he’s had himself a solid 2025 season in Triple-A,” Phalen wrote. “He was more than deserving of a shot once Hyeseong Kim went down, but I don’t see Los Angeles moving on from a veteran infielder to keep Freeland in the big leagues.
“I’d bet Freeland, who is batting .286 with a .624 OPS in six games, is sent back to Triple-A upon Kim’s return. We’ll probably see him back in MLB once rosters expand at the beginning of September.”
When infielder Hyeseong Kim returns, Freeland is likely heading to Triple-A, as Phalen points out, but there’s a chance that the young infielder could become a staple on the roster by next season.
Freeland is very talented, but he’s still young and needs to polish his game a bit. The Dodgers could look to use him down the stretch if injuries spark up at all, but his time with the Dodgers may be coming to an end this year, if everybody can get and stay healthy.
