Dodgers Sign Nemesis Eddie Rosario to Free Agent Contract
The Los Angeles Dodgers were on a roll in Oct. 2021. They had defeated the St. Louis Cardinals in an emotional Wild Card game to keep their World Series hopes alive after a 106-win regular season.
In the National League Division Series — the first postseason matchup ever between the Dodgers and their historical rival, the San Francisco Giants — they pulled out a win-or-go-home thriller in Game 5 to advance to the NL Championship Series.

The Braves’ outfielder went 14 for 25 with a double, triple, three home runs and nine RBIs in the Atlanta Braves’ six-game victory to advance to the World Series. Rosario was named NLCS Most Valuable Player.
Saturday, Rosario had a locker in the Dodgers’ spring training clubhouse, the newest member of a team that is intent on being the first in MLB to win back-to-back World Series in 25 years.

Rosario signed a minor league contract with the Dodgers, according to multiple reports, and is in the Dodgers’ major league camp as a non-roster invitee.
According to Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times on Twitter/X, Rosario’s 2021 NLCS performance has already come up a few times around camp, “but it’s in the past. … It was a good moment for me.”

Rosario, 33, is a veteran of 10 major league seasons with the Minnesota Twins, Cleveland Guardians, Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals. He’s a career .262/.298/.450 hitter with 169 home runs and 583 RBIs.

Rosario joins a long list of non-roster invitees that will be hard-pressed to crack the Dodgers’ roster without an injury at the major league level. The Dodgers have also invited infielder Michael Chavis, and former Cubs third baseman David Bote among others, to a group that mostly returns its roster after its 2024 World Series run.
The Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees in five games to win the eighth championship in franchise history last October.

Rosario split last season between the Braves and Nationals, slashing .175/.215/.316 with 10 home runs and 35 RBIs in 91 games. Cut by Washington in July, Rosario signed with Atlanta two days later, but by August was back on waivers.
Rosario finished the season with the New York Mets’ Triple-A affiliate, going 3 for 29 with a home run in seven games.
