The Miami Dolphins and wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. mutually agreed to part ways on Friday. Beckham will be on waivers until Monday.

Beckham, 32, is hoping to land more opportunities with another team, and thus the Dolphins announced they were waiving him. He is owed approximately $200,000 for the remainder of the season. Beckham hasn’t earned the incentives in the deal.
If Beckham clears waivers, he will be permitted to sign with any club. Beckham signed a one-year, $3 million contract with Miami in May. He was poised to stand behind Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle on the depth chart. However, he struggled to make any real impact on the offense.

Beckham began the season on the physically unable-to-perform list following offseason surgery. He was activated on Oct. 5. He didn’t record a catch in his first three games of the 2024 season. In that trio of games, Beckham played just 33 snaps.
This season, Beckham has tallied nine catches for 55 yards on 18 targets with no touchdowns. Beckham never quite fit as the third-string wideout with the Dolphins, especially with the increased production of tight end Jonnu Smith.
In the last four seasons, Beckham has played in 37 games, amassing 88 total receptions for 1,157 yards and eight touchdowns. Beckham missed the entire 2022 campaign because of knee surgery. Due to his production and injury history, it seems unlikely he could have a breakout performance anytime soon.
The last time Beckham made a consistent impact on any offense was with the Los Angeles Rams in 2021. Beckham sustained an ACL tear that same season. While his production may never be the same, Beckham could garner interest from his previous teams in the Rams and Baltimore Ravens.
Both the Rams and Ravens are preparing for potential playoff runs and could use an additional experienced receiver like Beckham.
As for the Dolphins, Beckham’s departure means rookie Malik Washington will continue as the No. 3 receiver in Miami. The Dolphins will travel this week to face the Houston Texans on Sunday. Miami is in the mix for an AFC wildcard spot with a win over the Texans in Week 15.
Tua Tagovailoa and company understand Houston has a strong defensive unit, but hope to put on a quality performance.
“They play really well. Sound football,” Tagovailoa said via the team transcript. “They get some depth in the back end, so they try to mitigate a lot of explosives, but you’ve got to have your Ps and Qs when you’re dealing with a rush that they have. Very similar structure to the team that we just played, but they don’t necessarily play the same way if that makes sense.”
