Donald Trump Warns Tesla Protesters as He Buys One of Elon Musk’s Cars
President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that he will classify violence against Tesla dealerships as domestic terrorism.
Speaking alongside Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Trump expressed support amid recent “Tesla Takedown” protests and the company’s stock decline.
Musk, in turn, stated that Tesla plans to double its U.S. vehicle production over the next two years while addressing reporters at the White House with Trump.
While speaking to reporters, Trump checked out a new Tesla on the White House driveway, choosing a sleek red Model S to show support for Musk’s electric vehicle company amid criticism over Musk’s ties to his administration and efforts to shrink the federal government.
“Wow,” Trump said as he slid into the driver’s seat. “That’s beautiful.”
Musk joined him in the passenger seat, joking about “giving the Secret Service a heart attack” as they discussed the car’s rapid acceleration.
Trump told reporters he would personally pay for the vehicle, which costs around $80,000, and leave it at the White House for his staff to use. He added that he hopes his purchase will help bolster Tesla’s success.
