President Donald Trump told reporters during a press availability Monday that he would be in favor of labeling antifa as a domestic terrorist organization.
Antifa, which is short for “anti-fascists” is a left-wing, anti-fascist, anti-racist political movement in the United States.
“Antifa is terrible,” Trump said, adding. “We have some pretty radical groups and they got away with murder.”
“These aren’t protests these are crimes what they’re doing,” he said in response to a question from a reporter.
The comments came after Trump signed an order to send the National Guard into Memphis to combat crime.
This latest deployment of federal forces will be a “replica of our extraordinarily successful efforts” in Washington, Trump explained.
Officials from the FBI, DEA and ICE, along with the US Marshall’s service will all be headed towards Memphis as part of the enforcement.
