European Union Affairs Minister János Bóka warned that the European Union must not be allowed to “sink to being the world’s fool,” following the European Commission President’s recent speech. Writing on Facebook, the minister argued that Brussels continues down “the same failed paths,” pushing for Ukraine’s accession regardless of the immense burden this would place on member states.
Bóka criticized the announcement of a “defence semester,” which he said raised the level of “war hysteria,” threatening both the security and the economic wellbeing of European citizens. “Neither competitiveness nor the energy crisis is being addressed with real solutions,” he stressed.
According to the minister, poor trade negotiations and a series of misguided decisions have left Europe’s economy in decline, everyday life increasingly difficult, and the continent more vulnerable. At the same time, he noted, political and ideological pressure continues against those member states unwilling to follow the Brussels mainstream.
Bóka emphasized that the speech also reflected the programme of Hungary’s opposition Tisza Party, which in his words means “war drift, economic decline, and ever heavier burdens on European citizens.” He concluded by insisting that Europe’s people “deserve real solutions, peace, stability, and prosperity.”
