Double Trouble: Phillies Place Two Starters On Injured List

The stretch run for the Philadelphia Phillies took a major hit Monday.
Matt Gelb of The Athletic reported that Philadelphia would be placing both Trea Turner and Alec Bohm on the 10-day injured list due to varying injuries.

According to Charlotte Varnes of The Athletic, Turner’s injury is a Grade 1 hamstring strain. He is expected to return in the first round of the postseason at the latest and could be back even before then.
Turner has been outstanding in the second half of the season, and over the last 30 days, he boasts a .378/.413/.555 slash line to go along with a .967 OPS and three home runs. His .305 average across the entire season ranks fourth in MLB.
If Trea Turner misses significant time, it’ll, no doubt, be difficult to replace him. 2025 has been the year, both offensively and defensively, we’ve been waiting on since he signed his 11-year deal pic.twitter.com/I1hbAasegX

As for Bohm, it is a shoulder injury that he’s been dealing with for several days. Phillies manager Rob Thomson expects that Bohm will be back immediately after the minimum 10-day IL stint is complete.
Unlike his teammate, Bohm has struggled in the second half of the season. His slash line over the past 30 days sits at .243/.296/.351 with just one home run that came Aug. 17 against the Washington Nationals.
The loss of Turner is a massive one, as he’s been among the best players in the league since the All-Star break concluded. He is finally beginning to play like he was expected to when he signed his 11-year, $300 million contract prior to the 2023 season.
For Bohm, it is his second time hitting the injured list this season. The first time was due to a fractured left rib, and now a shoulder injury has forced him off the field for a second time.
The two injuries came on the same day that Philadelphia welcomed in the division rival New York Mets for a four-game series with massive National League East implications. A series split or win for the Phillies without two of their best players would be a massive step toward winning the division for the second season in a row.
