Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors

Jill Duggar Dillard is reminiscing about a major milestone in her love story — one that was a bit more complicated to capture for TV than she initially expected.

On Saturday, March 29, Jill, 33, took to Instagram to mark the 11th anniversary of her engagement to Derick Dillard, sharing sweet throwback photos from the special day in Bentonville, Arkansas.

“💗 #mushyalert 💍 Throwback to 11 years ago today… when I said, ‘Yes!! Totally!!’ to spending the rest of my life with the man of my prayers and dreams!” she captioned the post. “I couldn’t be more thankful to have @derickdillard by my side through the ups and downs of life! LYSM babe! 💗.”

Jill also revealed in the caption that it wasn’t as smooth as it seemed on TV. In fact, the couple had to “reenact” their engagement more than once to make sure the film crew had the perfect shot for the episode of 19 Kids and Counting, which aired the episode in 2014.

“🎥Fun fact: When shooting the proposal, we had to reenact it again to make sure the crew had everything they needed from all the camera angles. 😆,” she shared before admitting, “The people helping clear the square didn’t know we were the couple they were supposed to let in,… “They said, ‘Sorry, there’s a film shoot happening right now,’ but eventually let us through once we explained who we were.”

The Counting On alum also included a few other fun anecdotes about the date and their relationship. “💖My sister, @jessaseewald and I were courting & engaged on nearly the same timeline, so we had lots of double dates and late night discussions on all the relationship details,” she said of her sister, Jessa Duggar Seewald, who was courting now-husband Ben Seewald at the time.

Since their engagement in 2014, Jill and Derick have gotten married and welcomed three children: Israel, 10, Samuel, 7, and Freddy, 2. The couple suffered the heartbreaking loss of their stillborn daughter Isla in 2023, which Jill shared with her followers.
