Election Without Charlie Kirk Is ‘Gut Punch,’ ‘Southern Charm’ Alum Says

Former Southern Charm cast member Ashley Jacobs mourned the loss of conservative activist Charlie Kirk last night, saying it was like a “gut punch” to watch an election without his coverage.

The Context

Jacobs, who left Southern Charm after Season 6, moved to California and went back to being a nurse. She’s expressed support for President Donald Trump since the 2020 election and mourned Kirk in posts on social media in the wake of his assassination.

Kirk was fatally shot in September while at an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. His wife, Erika Kirk, has since taken up the mantel of spearheading his organization, Turning Point USA, and has committed to keeping his legacy alive.

What To Know

On Tuesday, Erika Kirk shared a series of photos and videos of her husband in his podcast studio on the night of the 2024 election. She captioned the post with the comment that Charlie delivered the youth vote for Republicans by reminding them “what it looks like to live for something bigger than yourself.”

Commenting on the post, Jacobs said that she watched Charlie’s 2024 election night coverage. At the time, she was in the hospital after having given birth to her second child.

“I remember thinking I’m more excited over President Trump winning than I was over the baby,” she wrote, adding a giggling emoji. “Watching this now feels like a gut punch. I can’t believe he’s gone.”

Jacobs added that Charlie was an “incredible man” and will never be forgotten.

Along with praising her husband’s work, Erika praised everyone who was involved in his organization for helping to “write history.”

Tuesday’s elections were disappointing for Republicans, who faced a series of losses. In New York City, democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani won the mayoral race despite Trump’s push for Republicans to vote for former Governor Andrew Cuomo, the independent candidate.

Democrat Mikie Sherrill won the New Jersey gubernatorial race, and Democrat Abigail Spanberger was elected governor of Virginia. Democrats also flipped two seats in deep-red Mississippi, breaking the Republican supermajority in the state.

What People Are Saying

Erika Kirk, in her Instagram post: “These videos are poetically etched in my heart and every time I rewatch them I’m flooded with overwhelming emotion. They serve as a deep reminder to myself, to all of us, that God uses willing hearts to move mountains. And Charlie’s heart? It was all in. Always.”

What Happens Next

Erika Kirk became CEO of Turning Point USA, her late husband’s organization, after his death. She’s held rallies in the wake of her husband’s death to continue the campus speaking tour that he was on when he was killed.
