The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced on Friday it is cutting its workforce by at least 23 percent.
The cuts will be done through a combination of layoffs and voluntary retirements, taking staffing levels down from 16,155 employees back in January, to a total of 12,448, Reuters reports.
The agency will also shutter its Office of Research and Development.
