ESPN Insider Predicts Wild Landing Spot For Diamondbacks Star Eugenio Suarez
🎙️ Voice is AI-generated. Inconsistencies may occur.
The Arizona Diamondbacks hold the keys to the Eugenio Suárez trade sweepstakes.
And with Suárez’s contract expiring at the end of the season and the slugger enjoying a career year, it’s almost certain that he’s traded in the coming days.
Teams in the sweepstakes reportedly include the Detroit Tigers, Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers, among others.
ESPN’s Jesse Rogers recently made the shocking prediction that the Diamondbacks would trade Suárez to the Cincinnati Reds rather than one of the more desperate teams in the sweepstakes.

“Suárez goes back to the Reds for Single-A starter Ty Floyd and Triple-A reliever Zach Maxwell. Suarez spent seven seasons with Cincinnati, highlighted by a 49-homer year in 2019,” Rogers wrote. “Great American Ballpark plays smaller and smaller during the summer months, so getting Suárez for August and September would be a power boost for the Reds, who need another bat to stay in the playoff race.
“Despite a down 2025 season so far, Maxwell and his nasty slider could fill a spot in the Arizona bullpen next season while Floyd works his way up the minor league ladder. The Reds could also offer major-league-ready pitcher Chase Petty in a deal.”
Suárez was with the Reds for seven years, and he quickly became a fan favorite in the Queen City. Now, years after being traded by the Reds, he could be brought back in a deadline blockbuster.
The Reds desperately need a bat like Suárez in their lineup. He could slot in at third base or designated hitter, though the Reds would likely play him at the hot corner.
The slugger would likely hit behind Elly De La Cruz for the rest of the season, which should spark the Reds’ offense quite a bit.
It would be shocking to see Cincinnati undercut some of the other big-name teams in the Suárez sweepstakes, but it’s not out of the realm of possibilities.
