Fans Clap Back Against Dave Portnoy’s Rant Against Angel Reese

Fans are not OK with the way Dave Portnoy talks about Chicago Sky star Angel Reese.

The Barstool Sports president posted a six-minute rant on why he believes Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark, 22, is much better than Reese, 22, on Monday, September 2, slamming the opinions of athletes like Lisa Leslie and Sheryl Swoopes. He captioned it, “The media needs to stop comparing Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. It’s unfair and cruel.”

The 47-year-old businessman insisted he “had to do something,” after reading Leslie’s tweet saying “both players deserve the Rookie of the Year Award.” The admittedly massive Clark fan said “anybody with eyeballs, who has ever watched basketball in their life, knows they’re not even in the same county, zip code, country, universe as players,” and suggested race could be the reason for people supporting Reese.

“If you say they are, you have an agenda. You’re lying,” Portnoy said. “Maybe you’re a Black person, I don’t know, who can’t lose their street cred by saying a white player from Iowa is better than the Black girl. I don’t know.”

Many fans took to X to denounce Portnoy’s take, with one person posting, “nah man the way dave portnoy actually speaks on angel reese is actually disgusting and weird as f**k, like this s**t isn’t normal.” Another X user shared, “Dave Portnoy is another non-athlete living vicariously through Angel Reese and others…..Portnoy is a clown 🤡.”

Others suggested Portnoy was purposely being offensive to gain clicks. “The real sad part is that Dave Portnoy just talks about Angel Reese for clicks. Barstool has lost relevance and the only way Dave can stay part of the conversation is to dress down Angel weekly and try to belittle any accolade she achieves. He grosses me out 🤮🤮🤮,” one fan wrote.

“He really posted this unironically. Not realizing how hypocritical it is with him being one of the main people ‘in the media’ comparing the two… Davey Controversy does it again,” another person posted, seemingly calling Portnoy’s response hypocritical.

Elsewhere in his video, Portnoy claimed he was “starting to worry about Angel Reese and her mental health,” saying, “Nobody should be forced to live under unfair, unreachable expectations their whole life.”

He called Reese a “very good rebounder,” but also “one of the worst shooters in the league.” He added, “They’re not both Rookie of the Year, and it’s okay. Not everyone is Michael Jordan… Some people are a poor man’s Dennis Rodman.”

The latest post comes after Reese had seemingly responded to previous attacks on her abilities led by Portnoy. She took to X on August 25 to share, “if it was easy, everybody would be doing it. we good! #skytown.”
