First Look At Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein Revealed by Netflix

Guillermo del Toro’s next big screen outing has been highly anticipated since it was first announced, and now, after what feels like years, Netflix has released a first-look image at Oscar Isaac as Dr. Victor Frankenstein in del Toro’s reimagining of Mary Shelley’s classic novel.

It may be just a slither, but it feels like the whole cake finally getting to see something from the film that boasts an all-star cast made up of BAFTA and Emmy nominees, as well as Academy Award winners and exciting up-and-comers, including Mia Goth, Ralph Ineson, Christoph Waltz, Jacob Elordi, Charles Dance, Burn Gorman, and David Bradley, who star alongside Isaac in this contemporary twist on the gothic tale.

In the first-look image, Isaac is lit by cascading light, which sweeps down into what appears to be a studious setting, illuminating Dr. Frankenstein, who is holding onto a golden bottle, looking with fervour at his subject.

There’s not much in there to fully depict exactly what is happening, but it’s a stunning image that sets the tone for what’s to come from the three-time Oscar winner behind The Shape of Water and Pinocchio.

Until today, Frankenstein did not have a release date, but Netflix has revealed that the film will land on the streaming service in November – though precisely which date is yet to be determined.
