Florida to Turn Former POW Camp into Migrant Detention Center

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is looking to turn a military base that held German prisoners of war during the Second World War into a migrant detention center.
DeSantis said on Wednesday that he may turn Camp Blanding – now the Florida National Guard base located southwest of Jacksonville – into a a temporary holding center for undocumented migrants.
It comes after other plans were announced to convert a remote airstrip in the Everglades, dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz,” into another migrant detention center.
Speaking about the plans on Wednesday, DeSantis said: “[Alligator Alcatraz] will help our state and local law enforcement with relieving some burden on resources. We’ll probably also do something similar up in Camp Blanding.”
