FM: Hungary will not accept anti-Israel proposals from Brussels

The minister says the government is building a strategic alliance and friendship with Israel

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó declared that Hungary will continue to reject anti-Israel measures proposed by Brussels, emphasizing instead the strengthening of strategic partnership and friendship with the State of Israel. The minister made the statement on Thursday following his meeting with Yossi Dagan, head of the Samaria Regional Council.

FM Szijjártó explained that the discussion focused on the Middle East security situation, noting with regret that anti-Israel sentiments remain strong in parts of Western Europe. “One consequence of this is that Brussels continually proposes anti-Israel measures to the member states. We will not accept these and are working to build a strategic alliance and friendship with Israel,” he stressed in a Facebook post.

The minister added that the talks also addressed the condition of Christian communities in the Middle East. “We agreed that the protection of ancient Christian communities in the region and guaranteeing their security is an important shared responsibility,” he underlined.
