FM: We are closer to ending the war in Ukraine
The foreign minister has welcomed Wednesday’s phone call between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, has welcomed Wednesday’s phone call between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying it was a “big step” towards the hope of ending the war in Ukraine.
“We have been living in the shadow of the war and hoping for the war to end for three years,” Minister Szijjártó said in a post on Facebook late on Wednesday. “Today, with the phone call between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, we have come closer to the fulfilment of this hope.”
“We trust that the ensuing negotiations will be successful and after three years, peace can return to central Europe,” Minister Szijjártó added.
