Former Browns Star Nick Chubb Linked to Surprising NFC Team
The Cleveland Browns do not seem to be a potential destination for free agent running back Nick Chubb anymore. After drafting two running backs in the 2025 NFL Draft, Chubb seems likely to play for another NFL franchise for the first time in his career.
Originally drafted by the Browns with the No. 35 overall pick in the 2018 draft, Chubb quickly became one of the most feared running backs in the league.
Unfortunately, during the 2023 season, Chubb suffered a gruesome knee injury against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He came back last year and played in eight games, but did not look like his old self during those games.

In the eight games he played in 2024, Chubb carried the football 102 times for 332 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 3.3 yards per carry. He also caught five passes for 31 yards and another touchdown.

With Cleveland likely out of the running for him in free agency, there are only a few potential landing spots left who need a running back. Two of those teams are the Chicago Bears and Washington Commanders, who ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler already linked as possible fits for Chubb.
A surprising new NFC team has been named a possible team to watch for Chubb.
Patrick McAvoy of New Orleans Saints on SI believes that the Saints should give Chubb a call.
“Picture the way the Detroit Lions handle the running back position. David Montgomery is more of a bruiser and Jahmyr Gibbs is the flashy, big-play guy,” McAvoy wrote. “That’s the mold Chubb and Kamara could fill. Kamara should have as many opportunities as possible, but pairing him with Chubb would keep him fresh and also the former Browns star wouldn’t have to carry the load like he did before.”

Throughout his NFL career, Chubb has played in a total of 85 games. He has racked up 6,843 yards and 51 touchdowns on 1,340 carries for a career average of 5.1 yards per attempt.
Taking a flier on him would not be a bad move for New Orleans. Alvin Kamara has had some injury concerns in recent years. Chubb could take some of the workload off of his shoulders and also give the Saints a legitimate starting option if Kamara does miss time.
New Orleans may not end up having interest in Chubb, but it’s a potential landing spot that could make sense.
