Gary Woodland in Best Form Since US Open Win, Gives Min Woo Lee ‘Stud’ Prop

Thanks to his unwavering determination and courage, Gary Woodland, the PGA Tour Courage Award recipient, has made a remarkable comeback to professional golf.
The 40-year-old US Open winner underwent brain surgery in 2023 to remove a lesion, which had been causing him immense anxiety and fear. Defying all odds, Woodland returned to the course 18 months ago and has participated in 34 events since.
His latest showdown was at the Texas Children’s Houston Open, where he tied a course record with an impressive 8-under 62 at Memorial Park Golf Course.
The stellar performance earned him a finish at 19-under for the week, tied for second. His day was capped off with an unreal approach shot from 200 yards out on 18.
This marked a significant milestone in his career, making the Sunday round his best showing on the PGA Tour since 2018. In the final round, the 4-time PGA Tour winner delivered seven birdies and a thrilling eagle.
As a result, he is poised to break into the top 50 of the FedEx Cup standings. After the tournament, Woodland shared his thoughts on this achievement.
“It was great just to get those juices flowing again, just to see some results for that matter. I’ve worked my tail off when I’ve been able to.”
He added, “And Randy Smith, being back with him, he just keeps telling me just to keep going, just to keep going, that I have everything. It was nice to finally see it. It’s one thing to tell yourself and to believe it, but it’s another thing to see it in person. I saw and felt everything that I wanted to feel today.”
Notably, Woodland’s 62 was also his best round on Tour since the 2018 CIMB Classic, where he shot an incredible 61 in the second round. Before Sunday’s T-2 finish alongside world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, his best finish was T-9 at the 2023 Shriners Children’s Open.
But ultimately, the $9.5M event was won by Min Woo Lee, who savored his first PGA Tour win on Sunday. Despite falling short of the top spot, the 40-year-old praised the Texas Children’s Houston Open champion.

Woodland’s praise didn’t stop there. He acknowledged Lee’s immense potential: “We all know once you break through for him, the sky’s the limit, so really happy for him.”
Lee’s historic win at the Texas Children’s Houston Open marked a significant milestone in his career. He joined an elite group of seven players in TOUR history who have claimed the Texas Children’s as their first PGA Tour victory.
