Giants Top Prospect Floated As Potential ‘Panic Button’ Trade Candidate

The San Francisco Giants recently shocked the baseball world by swinging a blockbuster trade for slugger Rafael Devers.
Now, the Giants are in a position to make more huge moves before the trade deadline. If they’re trying to close the gap on the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Giants are going to need to make a few more big moves this season.
FanSided’s Nick San Miguel recently suggested Giants top pitching prospect Carson Whisenhunt could be the team’s most likely player to be traded this season.

“Could president of baseball operations, Buster Posey, hit the panic button and make another move? If he does, do not expect him to trade top prospect Bryce Eldridge,” San Miguel wrote. “While the left-handed bat is currently dealing with a hamstring issue, the Giants do not want to get rid of him, and they were unwilling to include him in the Devers trade.
“Instead, San Francisco could look to trade their top pitching prospect, Carson Whisenhunt, for a bat. The southpaw has shown promise in Triple-A despite some rough starts as of late. With a wicked changeup and high upside, the Giants could deal him in exchange for an impact player on offense to try and make things click.”
If the Giants are going to swing any more big trades, they’ll likely need to include somebody like Whisenhunt.
While the lefty is incredibly talented, San Francisco’s Triple-A team is loaded with pitching talent. Whisenhunt could net the Giants a star in return, while San Francisco could still use the top prospects in Triple-A to fill out the future of the pitching rotation.
Moving Whisenhunt makes sense for the Giants, but only if they’re netting a star in return.
