Giants Would Land $108 Million 3-Time All-Star in 4-Player Trade Prediction

The San Francisco Giants made a huge splash earlier this offseason by signing shortstop Willy Adames to a seven-year, $182 million contract. Could president of baseball operations Buster Posey put a bow on his first offseason in charge by trading for Seattle Mariners ace Luis Castillo?
Castillo is entering the third season of a five-year, $108 million contract in 2025. The three-time All-Star has been consistently productive since the start of 2022. He’s posted a 33-27 record with a 3.34 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 561 strikeouts over his last 522 2/3 innings pitched.

Adding the 32-year-old to the top of San Francisco’s rotation would pair him with the likes of Logan Webb, Robbie Ray and Justin Verlander. What might it take for the Giants to land Castillo? Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter gave his thoughts with the following hypothetical trade proposal:
Giants receive: starting pitcher Luis Castillo
Mariners receive: first baseman/outfielder LaMonte Wade Jr., infielder Marco Luciano and outfielder Dakota Jordan
“With three years remaining on his contract, Castillo is more than just a hired gun, and he would fill the void left by the departure of Blake Snell in the co-ace role alongside Logan Webb,” Reuter wrote. “In return, the Mariners get a talented offensive player who can help immediately in LaMonte Wade Jr., along with a pair of high-ceiling lottery tickets in Marco Luciano and Dakota Jordan.”
Luciano is a former top prospect who only has 41 big-league games under his belt. Jordan finished 2024 in Single-A and is ranked as San Francisco’s fourth-best prospect, per MLB.com.
