Groomers Not Prepared for How Dog Arrives After Owner Attempts DIY Cut
A dog groomer in North Carolina has unintentionally sparked a wave of laughter online after sharing a video of a small pup whose owners had shaved only its head before bringing it in to be professionally groomed. The clip, originally filmed more than a year ago, has now gone viral, racking up over 10 million views on TikTok.
Sarah White, who has been a dog groomer for seven years, told Newsweek she wasn’t the person grooming the canine that day. She said she happened to notice the pup just as she was heading home and couldn’t believe the uneven look.
“I filmed the video while I was at work because it made me laugh,” White told Newsweek, adding that the dog’s head “had already been shaved” at home before being brought in. “Another groomer was responsible for his haircut, and this was before she started on him.”
‘Couldn’t Believe How Silly It Looked’
The groomers were amazed when the pup arrived.
“I was about to head home when I saw him and couldn’t believe how silly it looked, so I pulled out my phone and took a quick video,” White said. When she recently rediscovered the video on her phone, she knew people would enjoy it.
“It made me laugh again, so I decided to share it in hopes others would get a laugh out of it too,” she said.
As the views racked up on TikTok, people couldn’t get enough of the unexpected look.
Many compared the dog’s haircut to Bob in the Beetlejuice films, while others shared reactions and stories of their own grooming mistakes.
“I love it when dogs are 80 percent fluff and 20 percent actual dog,” said one viewer.
Another wrote: “I definitely drew a dog like this in second grade.”
Dog Grooming in the US
Pet grooming is a big business. The U.S. pet grooming services market was valued at $2.06 billion in 2024. It is projected to grow by 6.7 percent through 2030.
According to Gitnux, 66 percent of dog owners take their canines to a professional groomer, visiting four to six times per year on average.
While some owners do give their pets a DIY haircut, 40 percent said they choose salons for convenience.
After sharing the video online, White was delighted that the unexpected mishap could bring a smile to so many faces.
“I’ve honestly been so happy and surprised by the reaction, especially seeing it reach over a million likes,” White said. “It’s been really nice to see that most people are just laughing and smiling because of it. I know, sometimes, videos can bring negative comments, but for the most part, I haven’t seen anything unkind, and I’m glad it could bring a little joy to someone’s day.”
